WOULD YOU RISK THE DREADED YELLOW T-SHIRT?
By Maya K and Sara E Have you been following the dress-code? If not, you better start. Mrs. Coyle is on the lookout! Mrs. Coyle has been stopping kids and checking if they’re following the dress code. Lots of students have been breaking the dress-code, such as wearing too short shorts, tank-tops that are less than 2 inches, wearing hats inside the building, and not wearing shoes or flip-flops. Now we all know that it’s pretty tempting to wear those things, but do you really want to risk wearing the dreaded yellow t-shirt? Emma quoted, “I think that the students are going a bit over the top, and it’s getting out of control.”
Hye Eyn said, “I don’t really like the strap rule, but I guess it’s not that bad.” Then we asked students whether they have ever had to wear the yellow t-shirt. ”Yeah, on the first day,” Annie answered. Kitty responded, “No, and I hope I don’t have to.” Has anyone ever broken the dress-code and gotten away with it? Mei claimed that she had never broken the dress code and gotten away with it. But Carol said “Yeah!!” For the first two weeks of school, Mrs. Coyle hadn’t been checking the dress code so much. But, since last Wednesday 9 people got warnings from breaking the dress- code. Apparently, what you wear can send mixed messages to others, and people remember you by what you wear. In our school there are lots of families with different religions, and come from different places, and we have to respect that. Mrs. Coyle commented, “We have the dress code to respect others, and to respect ourselves. These clothes are good for a learning environment.”
And lastly, we asked her have you seen a lot of kids break the dress-code? Mrs. Coyle answered “Yes, quite a few. I think it’s difficult for kids when fashion doesn’t follow the dress-code. Also, when I visited other schools in the US, other schools dress-code was way stricter. For example the skirts/shorts had to be down to your finger, or longer.”
